How to build a life together Chapter 1&2
Chapter One: Alex POV
(Italics represent a flashback)
“You have to leave and follow your dream. I am not going to
hold you back.”“You won’t be. You are part of that dream.”
“We can’t have that, at least not now.”
“I don’t want to give up on us.”
“You ain't. Two years from now you’ll see me somewhere, you are going to ask me
out, I’ll say yes and we will make up for all the lost time.”
“Two years.”
“Only two years. You can see whoever you want and vice
versa. If either of us gets married, we know it was just a dream.”
“I’ll look for you after two years. I promise.
“I’ll wait.”
Flight 1864 to Germany is now
boarding at gate A6. The echoing sound breaks up our embrace.
“You have to go,” I say to her.
“Give me two years and I’ll be back.”
“I know. I’ll wait.”
Final call for flight
1864 to Germany
boarding at gate A6.
“I love you,” I say as I hug her tightly one last time.
“I love you too.” She says back.
I pull back watching as she makes her way to board a plane
that’s going to separate us for at least two years.
Two years later.
“We got a meeting in a few minutes with a client that asked
for you personally.” Jake, my business partner informs me as he sits down in my
office.
“Really? What’s the client’s name?”
“No idea. The client wants to remain anonymous so am guessing the client knows
you personally.”
“Or they heard about my reputation which is much better than yours.”
“Well in that case the client must be pretty dumb to let
this amazing package of brains and body slip away.”
“We will see who the client agrees with then,” I say laughing.
“50 bucks?” He asks knowing how competitive I am.
“100.”
“ A hundred it is.”
We head out to the restaurant only taking Jake’s car since he offered to drive
me there.
“So what are your plans for the weekend?” Jake asks as he
takes a sip of the wine we had ordered.
“Jake, it’s a Tuesday afternoon. Isn’t it too early to be
planning for the weekend?”
“It will never be too early to plan for the weekend. The
weekend thoughts make the weekdays bearable.
“I’ll probably be at home then,” I answer already knowing
where this conversation is headed.
“Let me set you up for a date then.” He says and I roll my
eyes at him since we have had this conversation a number of times.
“For the last time Jake, I don’t want to go out with
anyone.”
“Just one date and if you don’t like her I won’t set you up
again for at least three months.”
“One date and no more asking for a year.”
“Deal.”
“Alex?.” I hear the voice I have missed for two years. I
shift my focus to the right and that’s when I see her. She is dressed in a
black suit with no tie fitting her perfectly. I get up from my seat and embrace
her in a tight hug.
“I have missed you so much,” I say as I start tearing up.
“I know. I have missed you too.” She says.
“Umm. Are you the client?” I hear Jake interrupt us.
“Yeah, and you are?”
“Jake Crowley, Alex’s business partner.”
“Okay. Do you mind? I only need Alex.” She says trying to
keep it professional.
“No. It’s okay. Alex’s the best in the business.” He says
as he hands me a hundred bucks and leaves.
“Am looking right at it,” I say as I intertwine our
fingers
Chapter Two; Jesse Pov
Leaving her two years ago was the hardest thing by far I
have ever done. Being oceans apart with a great amount of time difference was a major obstacle the first time we gave it a try. We met in Australia after I had signed a contract that
required me to transition from America
to Australia and thereafter
to Germany
for two years.
“Excuse me. Do you
mind if I ask you a question?” I ask a blonde-haired girl who appeared to be
around my age sitting at the bus stop.
“No, go ahead.” She
responds as she throws her empty cup of coffee into the bin and bookmarks the book she was reading.
“I am lost and am wondering
if you know this place?” I say handing her a paper with the address on it.
With a bright smile, she says, “You just have to wait for this bus and I’ll direct you once
we get closer.”
“Great. Can I buy you
another cup of coffee as a thank you?” I ask returning the smile.
“Sure.” She answers
back.
“Ummah okay,” I reply, looking around to spot a coffee shop.
“Need directions to a
coffee shop also?” She asks teasing me.
“Yeah. That would be
really helpful.”
“Follow me then.” She
says as she gets up and leads me towards the coffee shop.
“So what’s your name?”
I ask after we are seated in the second row to the left on the bus.
“Alex. Short for Alexandre.” She replies
and takes a sip of her coffee.
“Like Charles Dicken’s character?” I ask.
“Yeah. Did you read
the book?”
“Yeah. I didn’t understand the book 99.9% of the
time but other than that it was an awesome book.”
“How can you like a book if you didn’t understand it?” She asks tilting her
head.
“I just found a reason
to,” I replied trying my luck at flirting with her.
She remains silent for
a few seconds as she looks outside the windows
“This is your stop.
You just have to walk straight down that road and then take the second left
turn you see.” She says as she points at the road.
“Well thank you so
much once again,” I say smiling at her.
“No problem. Here’s my
number…” She says as she writes it down on the top-right edge of the first
page.
“Call me if you get
lost again and I can show you around if you want to.” She said tearing the
paper and handing it to me.
“I would like that.” I
smile at the thought of spending more time with her.
“You better alight before
we start moving again.”
“Right. Thank you once
again.” I say as I get up.
“Wait.” I hear her
call out loud. “You didn’t introduce yourself.”
“I’ll call you later Alex,” I say completely ignoring the unasked question.
“How long are you back for?” She asks after I pulled out the
chair for her and we both sat down.
“I don’t know but I don’t want to travel anymore. I want to stay
here with you.” I say as I place my hand on hers on top of the table.
“What about going home?”
“I would love to go back home but now my home is where you
and Harper are.”
“You know about Harper?” She asks with hesitation in her
voice.
“A little bit. My agent accidentally mentioned it. Why
didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to distract you. Is that why you are back?”
“You wouldn’t have distracted me. You aren’t a distraction
in my life or career and it’s partly the reason why am here.”
“What’s the other reason?” She asks smiling cause she
already knows the answer.
