Moment of truth
Moment of truth.
“Please please. Come with me. My mom wants to see you. Please El.” Portia says as we are having lunch at a restaurant.
“Please please. Come with me. My mom wants to see you. Please El.” Portia says as we are having lunch at a restaurant.
“You are very luckily. I can’t say no to you.”
“So you’ll come with me?”
“Yeah. Sure.
“Ohh thank you El. It means so much to me that you will spend the holidays with my family.”
“No problem.” That’s what friends are for.” I say smiling at her.
Friends. Good friends is all that we have been for the past three years even seen she visited my show when promoting Arrested Development. It was a cliché kind of love-at-first-sight kind of thing for me.
When I saw her smile, I knew that was it for me but when her Australian accent slipped while we were taking back stage after the show I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her in those tiny moments when it slipped.
We rent a private jet so that we can have our privacy and head to Australia.
“Portia. Welcome home.” Portia’s mum greets us at her house.
“Mom. I missed you so much.” Portia says as they continue to hug each other. “As promised, I dragged Ellen her too.”
“Come and hug me Ellen. It’s been a long time.”
“I know. I am kind of busy with work.” I say as I hug her back.
“It’s okay. I am glad Portia convinced you to come and usher in the New Year with us.”
“Well I didn’t want to intrude on family time.” I say shyly
“That’s nonsense. You are part of the family.”
“I’ll get our bags.” I say to Portia once her mom goes to check on the food.
“I’ll help you.” She says which I find funny as I thought she would be used to me carrying her bags.
“I got it. Just go help your mom.”
“Always such a chivalrous.” She says smiling and walking. I go and bring our bags inside and set them together in the guest room. We always stay in the same room while we are visiting each other parents.
“Can I help with anything?” I ask when I come into the kitchen.
“No. You need to get some sleep.” Portia says
“I am not that tired. I can help out.” I say protesting.
“Go sleep. I won’t tell you again.”
“Fine. I go sleep.””Good night Ellen. I’ll wake you up once food is ready.” Her mom says
“Nights ladies. See you in a few hours.” I say and head up to sleep.
Portia pov
“Does she always listen to you?” My mom asks me when Ellen is finally out of sight.
“Yeah. She tries to put up a fight but she always does in the end.” I say smiling as the memory of El complaining one time that I am always right as we had one of our many dinners.
“So are you two still planning on playing around each other?”
“What?” I ask in shock.
“Portia, I am your mom you can’t hide anything from me.”
“I am not hiding anything from you.”
“Really? Then how come I get the feeling that you like Ellen more than a friend.” She says smiling.
“I don’t like her...” I try to convince my mom and hide my true feeling for El.
“Portia??”
“Fine. I like her more than a friend. Ellen is always sweet, funny, caring and very patient. It’s had not to like her more than a friend especially when she starts goofing around like kid.”
“Good. I like her too as your friend and girlfriend and even better if she was your wife.”
“Ellen having me as her wife would be a dream come true.” I say smiling to myself.
“It’s not going to happen though if you won’t tell her what you are feeling.”
“I can’t tell Ellen that I love her.” I say loudly.
“You can. She is right behind you.”
I turn around and I see Ellen in her pajamas. Damn it. She always forgets to carry a glass of water when she heads up to sleep.
I turn around and I see Ellen in her pajamas. Damn it. She always forgets to carry a glass of water when she heads up to sleep.
“I’ll leave you two to talk.” My mom says as she walks outside into the back yard. A silence falls between us as no one knows were to start.
“I forgot my water.” Ellen says finally breaking the silence.
“I know.” I say.
“So… What you said, was it true?”
“What part did you hear?”
“The wife part and the you love me part.”
“I don’t want t ruin our friendship El.”
“Is it true though?”
“Yeah. I do love you and sometime in the future I would love if you had me as you wife but I don’t want anything to change if you don’t feel the same.” I say trying to control my nerves.
Portia…. Look at me.” Ellen says takes a few steps until we are a few feet from each other.
“I have been in love with you for the parts few years so there’s no chance that you will ruin of friendship. I do see you as my wife in a few years to come so I hope that the girlfriend title will be okay for now.”
“What?” I ask say shocked.
“I love you. Will you be my girlfriend?”
“Yes.” I say and I walk into her arms and kiss her for a while before a coughing sound interrupts us.
“Is it safe to say you guys are dating now?”
“Yeah. We are.” Ellen answers.
“Good. Get working on grand babies soon. I am not getting any younger soon.”
“Mom!!!”
“I’ll let you two discuss it. Someone ordered me to sleep.” She kisses me on the cheek.
“I didn’t order you and take your water with you this time.”
“
“
Okay boss.”
